LEM 575 Watt #8 meat grinder review
A meat grinder that can effectively process wild game meat is hard to find, let alone a meat grinder that is dedicated to wild game meat. What is even more challenging is to find a meat grinder that you can put on your countertop as other machines that can handle tougher meats tend to be larger and probably designed with a professional butcher in mind instead of the casual cook.
So where can you find such a machine that can handle deer meat? The Lem 575 Watt #8 Electric Meat Grinder promises that it is a powerful machine that can process wild game meat, but is it the grinder for you?
Design – 4/5
On a design perspective, the Lem Electric Meat Grinder looks pretty industrial with its steel and aluminum finish. The metal finish is well polished, giving off a clean reflection, something that softens its look. However, its overall design does look like it belongs to a professional kitchen, and not a simple home. This look, on the other hand, does give a feeling that the product is sturdy and durable.
This meat grinder may not fit into every kitchen, aesthetically speaking, and its size does make it a bit bigger than other meat grinders, but it does give off a feeling that it is very sturdy – something that other home cooks want from a product.
Accessories – 3.5/5
The Lem #8 Electric Grinder comes with some goodies you may not find with other meat grinders in the market. Right off the box, you grinder comes with 2 stainless steel plates – one plate has 48 holes for finer grind, while the other plate has 18 holes for a more coarse grind – one stuffing plate, 1 grinder knife, one 7/8” stuffing tube, one meat stomper, and of course, the product manual.
Those looking for other kinds of plates for grinding could be disappointed with just having two as the selection of how to grind meat does become a tad bit limited. The grinder knife, though, is a welcome addition to the whole package.
Power – 3.5/5
Could the Lem 575 Meat Grinder really grind wild game meat for you or will it have a hard time with tougher meats such as that of a deer’s or an elk’s?
With a 575 watt motor behind the already industrial looking machine makes this meat grinder a great appliance to have in your kitchen. Boasting that it can grind around 2 to 3 pounds per minute, which is a bit higher than some other meat grinders in the market, it can really be a trusty grinding companion in your home, especially for the casual meat grinder.
Once you pop the meat into the machine, you won’t really have a problem with it as it will almost grab the meat for you. With such a power, you are almost certain that you won’t get any clogging in the grinder. For the usual beef and pork, this little grinder can do the work for you, exceptional work, and what’s great is that it’s not really that loud when it does start grinding.
When it comes to wild game meat, however, you may be able to grind them a bit at a time. Not really up for big game meat, you may be able to process tougher meats little by little, as Lem does boast that it can handle 1 to 2 deer annually. Some may find the task of grinding wild game meat on the Lem’s Grinder a bit daunting, but give it a chance. Just don’t overdo it with the wild game grinding.
Consumers who are looking for a machine that was not made from China can take comfort in the fact that the power behind Lem 575 Watt #8 Electric Meat Grinder is made from the US – something that some consumers are looking for as it not only gives them some sort of security, but also the fact that some consumers like supporting local brands. Another factor that may give consumers a sense of security is that this machine’s power is UL approved, so you know that this product is all good when it comes to safety.
Ease of Use – 4/5
The Lem’s 575 Watt #8 Electric Grinder is easy to setup. With only a few parts to consider when assembling it, you won’t really have much of a hard time with it. The only thing that consumers should remember when it comes to setting up the machine is to perfectly align the parts, particularly, the cutting plate, so as to have the meat grinder function properly. When it comes to function, there are only two buttons to operate the machine: one on and off button, and one reverse button.
As for cleaning and washing the parts of the meat grinder, be reminded that some parts are not dishwasher safe. Putting these parts in the dishwasher will cause the parts to oxidize and turn black. Though this is perfectly safe to use, you just won’t get the pleasing shiny metal finish to it.
For the price of around $100, you are getting a decent machine that can grind meats for you. If you are a person who grinds meats such as pork and beef, then this is the grinder for you, but if you often need to grind wild game meat, then you probably best look for a different machine. That’s not to say that this machine cannot handle wild game meat, it’s just that you cannot grind those kinds of meat for long periods of time and in large quantities.
When it comes to its looks, its industrial aesthetics is quite pleasing, with its shiny metal finish that is sure to match some kitchen appliances. There is an ample amount of accessories, but it only comes with two kinds of stainless steel plates which may limit the kind of ground meat that you like. And as for its ease of use, it’s easy to set up, just be mindful of some parts as they will need to align properly.
All in all, the Lem 575 Watt #8 Electric Meat Grinder is a machine that has an average performance. Still a great buy for casual meat grinders that need to deal with pork and beef.
